History

La Reserve Links was designed by Peter Matkovich and Louis Oosthuizen and opened for play in late 2023

Championships

La Reserve Links hosted the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in December 2023

Course

We played La Reserve Links three months before it's official opening, and understandably we did not see the final product.

But what we did experience was the emergence of a very special new addition to the world of golf..

La Reserve occupies a vast site with dramatic ocean views from every hole, allowing a number of wonderful skyline greens.

The first thing that strikes you is the placement of the opening tee.

It is literally at the other end of the site from the closing holes and clubhouse!

Players commute uphill to the first tee and the course flows down the lanscape from there, offering panoramic views at every turn.

There are a number of skyline greens en route to the 18th hole, and while this is not unique, the big win at La Reserve is that there are no ugly uphill holes to compensate for the downs.

The land itself is sympathetic to the objective of producing a genuine links course, and the designers have been careful in the use of native grasses to provide an authentic links environment.

It something previously unseen in this part of the world..

La Reserve is indeed a unique course, but I delighted at the occasional references to the great courses around the world.

The bunker in the middle of the short par four 13th hole reminds one of Riveria's par 6th hole, although the holes themselves are quite different.

The long tee on the par 3 eighth hole changes angle, length and difficulty and is reminscent of the opening shot at Secession in the USA.

There are strong holes everywhere at La Reserve!

I believe La Reserve is a significant addition to the world's golfing landscape and is the clear new no. 1 in Mauritius.
