Situated on reclaimed land on Tuan Chau Island, Taun Chau Golf Resort was designed by Australian firm Pacific Golf Design and opened for play in 2021.
Understandably there is very little elevation change throughout the course.
It does have its challenges though with water in play on quite a number of holes.
And the course can play up to 7095 yards off the championship tees- so it is no pushover!
The 12th hole plays up to 711 yards long off the back markers!
Into the wind, that is a very long way.
At least it is not uphill!
As far as hazards go the low profile bunkering and many palm trees frame each hole, but it is the ever present water that demands your attention.
Notable holes include:
Hole 2, a long par 4 bending around the water
Hole 4, a strong par 5 around the water featuring some attractive and strategic bunkering.
Hole 8, an attractive par 3 with a near island green
Hole 9, a challenging par 4 finish to first nine with tee shot diagonally over the lake and the approach complicated a tad by a trio of fairway bunkers
Hole 16, the hardest hole on the course. Decisions must be made on the tee to take on the long carry directly at the hole, to drive diagonally to a shorter landing area with a longer and more difficult line to the pin- or to lay up straight and short leaving a very long direct approach.
Taun Chau Golf Resort borders Halong Bay, and is perfectly placed for travelling golfers who venture out on Halong Bay for some R & R, but want to squeeze in some golf..
