20. Fantastic Golf Holes- Old Head Golf Links, Ireland- hole 12

Old Head Golf Links- hole 17Old Head Golf Links- hole 17

Join us as we journey to Old Head Golf Links on the south coast of Ireland, located on some of the most remarkable golfing land in the world!

Accessed via a narrow land bridge the dramatic headland that is home to Old Head protrudes over 2 miles into the Atlantic Ocean.

Surrounded by rugged 300 ft cliffs the links is utterly exposed to the weather.

Play Old Head and you are guaranteed a memorable day's golf!

Ireland is known for it's glorious links courses and is one of the great golfing destinations in the world.

Old Head is a clifftop rather than a traditional links course and offers a nice contrast to the great links courses like Ballybunion, Lahinch & Tralee.

At Old Head the links criss cross the headland and include an amazing 10 holes that play along or over the clifftops- once played these holes are never forgotten!

They are challenging in any conditions, let alone wild weather, and your cameras will be working overtime to cpature images and memories.

There are so many outstanding coastal holes- the par 3's at holes 7, 13 & 16 are great fun, and the par 5 seventeenth is an all world hole.

But for us the standout is the unique par 5 twelfth hole.

The setting is ridiculously dramatic with sheer cliffs bordering the fairway and green, and a huge sea cave below.

The tee shot is an all or nothing chance to hit an elevated blind target.

It is one of the most intimidating shots in golf.

There is nowhere to miss.

You just have to gird your loins and give it your best.

The stone marker indicating line gives little away in terms of required elevation or length of shot in heavy winds.

First timers will hit the drive and have no clue as to where their ball rests until they make the climb to the fairway

A successful tee shot will inevitably leave an approach to the green that is short enough to tempt almost anyone to consider the possibility of getting home in two, BUT so dangerously tight as to suggest that two short irons and a birdie putt might be the more considered approachHole 12 is spectacular, dramatic, unique, intimidating, and raises questions each player must answer to complete the journey..

It's a fantastic golf hole!
